Type: General Public - G Job Duties Western State Hospital is
looking for an On Duty NP PRN (nights, weekends, holidays). This
position is open to FNP, Pediatric, Adult-Gerontology, and
Psychiatry. Location: Western State Hospital 103 Valley Center
Drive, Staunton, VA 24401. Who We Are Western State Hospital, part
of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental
Services (DBHDS), has been a leader in psychiatric treatment since
1828. WSH is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric
facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Just 30 minutes
from vibrant university towns, our hospital serves adults with
serious mental health needs and is nationally recognized for our
Psychosocial Rehabilitation “Learning” programs. WSH provides a
modern clinical setting and a therapeutic environment for patients,

attractive place to live and work. The NP will collaborate with
on-call admission coordinator regarding any afterhours referrals to
determine appropriateness of admission and medical clearance;
conduct an admission assessment, including: history, physical exam,
mental status, suicide/risk assessment, risk factors for seclusion
and restraint, initial laboratory studies, AIMS screening,
Alcohol/Detox Assessment, Tobacco Screening, VTE screening,
admitting orders, preliminary treatment and management of medical
and psychiatric problems; assess and manage of acute psychiatric
conditions; assess and manage of acute medical conditions in
consultation with on-call primary care providers and any patient
with concerns for unstable medical conditions will be sent to
Augusta Health ER for evaluation at the discretion of the On-Duty
on-site provider; arrange for transfer of patients requiring higher
level of services or care to the University of Virginia or Augusta
Health; assess all patients upon return from outside emergency room
evaluation or from special hospitalization and write any orders as
indicated and consult with back-up medical or psychiatric provider.
Minimum Qualifications - Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited Nurse
Practitioner program. - Active, unrestricted RN and NP licenses in
the Commonwealth of Virginia with Prescriptive Authority - Nurse
Practitioner Board Certification for PMHNP, FNP, AGNP, or AGACNP
Specialty - Knowledge and extensive experience as NP - Active
Virginia DEA prior to approval of clinical privilege. Additional
