Details Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Medical
Laboratory Technician - Microbiology for a 13 week travel
assignment in Winchester, Virginia . As a member of our team,

Qualifications:
- One year of recent experience as a Medical Laboratory
Technician specializing in microbiology
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state
regulations Preferred Qualifications:
- National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT,
AAB, HEW certifications
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this
position Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technician specializing in
microbiology performs routine laboratory testing to detect
bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites in clinical specimens.
Their work is essential for guiding patient treatment and
preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Essential Work
Functions:
- Process and analyze patient specimens to detect bacteria,
fungi, parasites, and viruses
- Perform culture inoculation, Gram staining, biochemical
testing, and microscopic examinations to identify pathogens
- Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing to determine
appropriate treatment options
- Operate and maintain automated microbiology analyzers and other
laboratory instruments
- Assist with molecular diagnostic testing for rapid pathogen
identification
- Recognizes and escalates abnormal or unexpected microbiological
results to Medical Technologists or CLS personnel for further
analysis
- Monitor quality control measures on media, reagents, and
laboratory equipment to maintain test accuracy
- Document and report laboratory findings to physicians and
healthcare teams, ensuring timely communication of critical
results
- Adhere to biosafety and infection control protocols to minimize
contamination risks
- Participate in quality assurance programs, regulatory
compliance efforts, and proficiency testing
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of
practice
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control
guidelines, and regulatory standards? Required Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal
communication skills
- The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English
language is required
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal
instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move
about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
- Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of
personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive
attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,
pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with
procedures and/or using department equipment.
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent
contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines
under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision
occasionally as well as working without assistance from other
personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity
schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Sensory - Visual acuity, ability to effectively communicate.
