Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator - Lung Cancer ScreeningFull-Time - Washington, DC (Onsite) - Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PMOverview:
- A leading academic health system in Washington, DC is seeking a
Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator to support its Low-Dose CT Lung
Cancer Screening Program. This is a full-time, onsite role with a
strong focus on patient screening, coordination, and
communication.Position Summary:
- The Nurse Navigator will oversee the daily operations of the
lung cancer screening program, including patient outreach,
eligibility assessment, shared decision-making counseling,
scheduling CT scans, and following up on results. This position is
primarily non-clinical (90% screening coordination, 10% clinical
support), with occasional assistance in preparing patients for
surgery or other related visits.Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage all components of the Lung Cancer Screening Program
- Conduct pre-screening and eligibility assessments for referred patients
- Place and schedule low-dose CT scan orders
- Provide shared decision-making and smoking cessation counseling
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow-up on scan results
- Collaborate with thoracic surgery providers on high-risk cases
- Serve as a liaison for patients, referring providers, and internal teams
- Assist with community outreach and occasional clinical
needsRequirements:
- RN license in Washington, DC
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational
skillsPreferred Experience:
- Oncology, case management, or nurse navigation background
- Familiarity with Epic EMR and LungRADS
- Experience in lung cancer screening coordinationTeam & Patient
Volume:
- Join a collaborative team of providers, a clinical nurse navigator, and administrative support
- Patient volume: approximately 5-7 patients per day
