This leadership position will plan, direct and manage the credit
scoring function. This role will manage a group of seasoned data
scientists through the development, implementation and monitoring
of credit risk scores for all lending asset types. Leads team to
develop and maintain models and frameworks for optimal
decision-making while balancing competing trade-offs. Serve as
subject matter expert regarding business functions, systems,
policies and/or procedures. Manage daily activities of professional
employees and/or supervisors. Support executive management in
developing and executing strategic plans. Work is performed under
limited supervision.
Responsibilities
May develop underwriting, account management, pricing, optimization
and simulation models to optimize Lending decisions
May oversee the development, implementation, and use of credit
scoring models and account management strategies
May develop and maintain price optimization and elasticity models
for risk-based pricing, credit line optimization models to minimize
risk exposure, and profitability models that allow for optimization
of the various trade-offs to achieve Lending's business goals
Maintain thorough knowledge of credit bureau data, tools and
initiatives as well as newer advancements in Machine Learning and
AI, and how they may be leveraged to improve Lending's credit
decisions
May develop simulation models for capacity planning and business
process improvement to improve operational efficiency, and member
service and satisfaction
Optimize business operation performance by analyzing current and
forecasting future performance to support strategic initiatives
Manage the collection, correlation, analysis, and reporting of data
and studies of organizational information to drive lending
operations, business decisions, and mitigate risk/loss
Maintain thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with
applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and NFCU
policies and procedures
Develop and maintain team-specific components of the Division
Annual Financial Plan (AFP)
Lead or participate in organization-wide project teams; monitor
projects assigned to the department and ensure milestones are
completed on schedule
Develop and implement new/updated policies, procedures, goals and
priorities as necessitated by demands, changing conditions, and/or
management request
Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and
obstacles; develop and implement changes and improvements
Leverage operations research techniques to optimize the performance
of Lending's products and operations
Manage and lead the simulation and optimization of credit policy
decisions utilizing various profit/loss scenarios to ascertain
current/future financial impact; make appropriate
recommendations
Lead development of ROA modeling to ensure that product pricing
appropriately addresses income objectives
Maintain understanding of business direction, environment and
strategies and work closely with stakeholders to ensure analytic
output addresses business needs
Evaluate/develop/implement analytical techniques and best practices
to gain a competitive advantage
Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities
Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; select employees
Establish performance goals and priorities
Prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals
Develop, mentor and counsel staff
Provide input and/or prepare budget requirements for Annual
Financial Plan (AFP)
Ensure section/branch goals and objectives align with
division/department strategy
Ensure efficiency of operations
Leadership Level - Supervise daily activities
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state, laws, rules and
regulations that govern the functions of the Consumer/Credit Card
Lending
Extensive progressively responsible experience leading and managing
an analytics operation in a large financial institution, including
operational and regulatory risks and controls
Advanced knowledge of any of the following: asset/liability
management, financial accounting, cost accounting, budgeting
principles and practices, statistics, finance, and/or mathematic
modeling
Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products
and services
Extensive experience in the use of statistical modeling software
(e.g. SAS or SPSS), and with QRM systems and software
Advanced knowledge of the concepts of asset-liability
management
Extensive experience demonstrating thought-leadership,
initiative-taking, decision-making and creativity solving business
problems
Extensive experience managing multiple priorities independently
and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
Extensive experience in working with all levels of staff,
management, stakeholders, vendors
Extensive experience supervising and leading professional
employees
Expert organizational, planning and time management skills
Expert research, data mining/querying, analysis, and reporting
skills, including proficiency in sophisticated statistical methods
and modeling, forecasting, and cost/benefit/risk analysis
Expert skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging
environment
Expert skill in project management to include establishing and
leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources;
ensuring successful project implementation
Expert skill presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and
information clearly and concisely
Expert skill producing desired results and achieving goals and
objectives
Expert skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach
agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
Expert verbal and written communication skills
Expert database, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation
software skills
Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related
field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and
experience
Desired Qualification(s)
Advanced knowledge of NFCU's policies, procedures, products, and
services
Significant experience leading and managing in diverse and complex
operational environments
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
